Death of the Reverend Fr. Jaime Bonet Bonet, Founder of Verbum Dei Missionary FraternityDeath of the Reverend Fr. Jaime Bonet Bonet, Founder of Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity Father Jaime Bonet, Founder of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity, which is a part of the Verbum Dei Missionary Family, died on June 25th, in the Henares University Hospital (Coslada, Madrid). The vigil chapel will be located, from Tuesday 27th until Wednesday 28, at the Chapel in Centro Internacional de Formación Misionera Verbum Dei; at Velilla de San Antonio-Loeches road, Km 3.5 CP 28890 Loeches – Madrid. The Funeral Mass will be held at the same location on Wednesday 28th at 8pm, local time. Rev. Jaime will be buried, on Thursday 29th at 1pm, in Siete Aguas, at the Verbum Dei Missionary Centre; on Avellan st. number 42, CP 46392 Siete Aguas, Valencia. Father Jaime was born in Alqueria Blanca, Majorca, Spain, on May the 21st, 1926; and was ordained priest on May 31st 1952. He was a passionate and tireless preacher. His work of evangelization gave origin to the Ecclesial Institute of Consecrated Life: Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity. Verbum Dei received its pontifical approval in the year 2000. The Fraternity has male and female celibate missionaries, priests, and missionary married couples; it reaches into the Verbum Dei Missionary Family, which consists of lay devoted to the same charism and mission In 1994, He took part in the Synod of Bishops: “"The Consecrated Life and Its Role in the Church and in the World." He was there as founder and representing the New Forms of Consecrated Life. We remember some words from his intervention at the Synod: “To be witnesses to Christ –before being teachers- requires of us to be able to answer, with the same words of Jesus, to anyone who asks reason of our way of life: “Come and see.” Out of charity and justice, this life shaping adhesion to Christ is the first ideal and the essential theme that we cannot but present to every person. Both the young and the old are more passionate about being than having and doing. They will want to follow Jesus when they see lives that are rooted in Christ and fully realized and happy. They are convinced most by coherence between Word and life. (…) To imitate Christ captivates the hearts of today’s men and women.” After these last years of illness, fruit of his total self-giving for the sake of evangelization, we understand his death under the light of the grain of wheat that falls on the ground and dies in order to bear much fruit (cf.Jn.12:24) He leaves within our hearts the missionary command that Jesus gave to his disciples before ascending to heaven: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” (Mt.28:19) These are words that echo in us with all the strength of an apostle who devoted his life to form other apostles. News in Cebu: Called to be Spirit-Filled Evangelizers - Pentecost Vigil (Jun. 4, 2017)Cebu City - Last June 3, the Verbum Dei family in Cebu celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit through a vigil. It started in the afternoon at 4pm with the welcome. Followed by a "gymkhana", a fun obstacle course where the participants were grouped into teams and were put into different challenges/tasks. These tasks were related to the coming of the Holy Spirit, and promoted the spirit of family and working as a team. Afterwards a group sharing was done to share about their experience.

Let us be as one family in being one in gratitude and prayers for our founder's birthday and for our Verbum Dei family worldwide! Cebu City - "I Will Be The Voice that Speaks Your Word". This was the theme of last Sunday's event for the definitive promises of Aida Carpela, a lay consecrated missionary.
The promises were done during the celebration of the mass which was witnessed by the whole family, not only from Cebu, but from the members of the Verbum Dei family from the other communities here in the Philippines and from other countries as well. Among those who witnessed was no other than our president, Lucia Herrerias, who formally accepted her promises representing the whole Family. Fr. James McTavish and Fr. Vincent "Bong" Guinoo officiated the mass. After the mass was a simple "salu-salo" where the Verbum Dei family, including Aida's own family, friends and relatives, had a moment to share and be one in celebrating this joyous occasion. Afterwards, a short program was done where members of the family from the different realities, did various presentations (songs, dances, skits, etc.). It was indeed a great experience of celebration for the 'yes' of our dear sister, her yes that echoes not only here in Cebu, but to where God leads her: to many more who needs God's Word. Congratulations Aida!

Start of Formation course for the 2nd batch of Married Couple Missionaries in PhilippinesOn the 13th of May, 2017, we celebrate 100 years of Mother Mary’s first apparition in Fatima, Portugal. It was also on this same day that we celebrated the inauguration mass for the formation course of the Verbum Dei couples’ branch in Cebu, Philippines. Thus, for nine couples (seven from Cebu and one each from CDO and Sydney), together with the team of formators, begins a two year program of formation and further deepening in the Verbum Dei charism. We were also honoured with the presence of Lucia, president of the Verbum Dei Fraternity, James, ecclesial responsible for the Philippines zone, and Miguel-Angel, general administrator for Verbum Dei. It truly was an ecclesial moment that hopefully would have put a smile on Jaime’s face had he been there to participate, as we really felt like the early Christians in where the females, males and married members of the first Christian communities would celebrate and worship Jesus as one.

Cebu City - After a very fruitful Easter Encounter celebrations on the 3 places (Cebu, Olango and Bohol), the family took a break and spent a day just having fun.
The theme of the event was "Duol Kamo ug Magsadya Kita" (Come and Let Us Rejoice). The day started with a mass celebrated by Fr. Vincent (Bong) Guinoo. This was then followed by Darwin welcoming everyone to the event. It was good to see familiar and new faces, those who were part of the encounters and were able to meet the family. The day was filled with team games, music, animation and with lots of prizes. Later in the afternoon, the family had an exciting time as we played Bingo. Everyone had fun and was a great celebration.
