Gospel: Luke 12:39-48 “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” How much graces have you received ? How much has been entrusted to us? How many persons have been touched by the grace of our lives? See how much responsibility has been given to us? If much has been given to you, then that’s how much you will be judged by our Lord. If much has been given to you but you didn’t share any of your gifts, talents and riches; then that’s how much you’ll be measured. “Expand your tent...”, “touch more lives....” These are our challenges. How are you doing in your vocation in life? Are you faithful and dedicated, not easily discouraged, not selfish in sharing and “in widening of your tent”? Let’s ask Our Lady to help us in fulfilling the work entrusted to us by her Son, whatever work we do. #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 12:35-38 “Let your loin be girded and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when comes and knocks.” Lamps burning and girded loins are symbols of a readiness to go on a journey, or expecting someone to arrive, and ready to open the door. Jesus tells us to be constantly alert, vigilant, on the look out, for occasions of sin since the Lord may come knocking anytime. We can’t afford to be negligent, or lukewarm in our attitude. When we let that happen, we are led astray easily, distracted by every small temptation. A lukewarm person allows worldly matters, bad thoughts, selfishness to enter his life, thus weakening his resolve. Before long, he has fallen away into sin and away from the Lord. Let’s hang on to the Lord, let’s build our strength and faith in Him on a daily basis. #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 12:13-21 “Take care to guard all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” What the Lord means is we should not be confused with acquiring material goods for our family as much as we can. We must keep our focus on Heaven. We have to be happy no matter how much we have: with many or few. Acquiring too many goods may be detrimental to man’s growth. In a way it can harden our hearts and limit our interests, our vision to do greater things, even destroy relationships. We become distant from God, family and neighbor because our self-interest has become a priority. Let us hope in Jesus and ask Mary to help put our hearts in the right place- in God.

Gospel: Mark 10:35-45 “For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) Giving his own self has always been in the heart of Jesus. His kingship is far different from today’s leadership of some authority which seeks applause, rewards, and self-interest – may it be in the family, school, workplace, and government. More than this sad reality, the Gospel invites us to see God’s dream of having a world soaked in love for Him and for one another; and to hope that this dream can be turned into reality when we long to serve and not to be served all the time. How can you serve someone? Today, let it start with you. Allow your service to continue the cycle of self-giving of Jesus. #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 12:8-12 “For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say." (cf Luke 12:12) Just like the disciples of Jesus in today’s Gospel, we can also be confronted with the challenge of opposition when we try to follow Jesus closely. Not everyone will believe what we do and will be convinced of what we proclaim. What do we do when we experience such? Do we get discouraged? Or we become more persevering? Each day, Jesus encourages us to continue giving witness to our brothers and sisters. Opposition is inevitable, but we can be assured that we are never alone because the Holy Spirit will give us the light to carry on. Holy Spirit, thank you for your unending help, teach us to be more attentive to you. #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 10:1-9 “Go on your way… Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals.” (cf Lk 10:4-5) Today, we celebrate the Feast of St. Luke, one of the four evangelists who generously shared with us the Gospel of the Lord. As Christians, we are entrusted with the same great mission to proclaim the Kingdom of God. In doing so, Jesus invites us to completely trust in His providence and rely on His grace – bringing nothing but our faith, vision, and conviction - as He, who calls us, is faithful and will give us everything that we need when we learn to detach ourselves from things that may hinder us from fulfilling our mission. How are you called to proclaim the Kingdom of God in your family, friends, in work? Is there anything in your life that God is asking you to entrust to Him fully? #PrayVD

Daily Guidelines: October 17, 2018October 17, 2018 – Wednesday
Gospel: Luke 11:37-41 “..these you should practice without neglecting the others.” (cf Luke 11:42) Jesus in the Gospel stirs us to examine ourselves: why do I do what I do? Why do I work? Why do I study? Why do I go to church? Why do I help others? Is it to feel and look good enough, and to feed my ego just like the Pharisees? Or I do it to express my love for God and for His people? Today, we are invited to be aware on what drives us to do something. And as we celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius of Antioch, let us ask his intercession that each day, all our options and actions may be moved and inspired by our love of God. #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 11:37-41 Live in inner freedom! If Jesus would open your heart now, what would He see? Would He be confused that what you show outside is different what He sees inside? In today's Gospel, Jesus places sincerity of the heart above the list of commands. What matters to Him is what is within. As Christians, we may fall in the danger of losing ourselves in the details of external observances, but Jesus invites us to live in inner freedom from which an authentic following to God comes from. #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 11:29-32 "..so the Son of Man will be a sign for the people of this day." (cf Luke 11:30) When faced with options, it is common for us to ask for signs to affirm our decisions. But in today's Gospel, Jesus reminds us that He is tge greatest sign in all time - the full revelation of God's love for us. The signs around us may help us see what we need to do, but it is through the grace of having the capacity to listen to Jesus through prayer that we can be assured and certain how He wants to us in concrete ways. As we celebrate the Memorial of St. Teresa, we ask for the same grace to be sensitive on God's presence working in our lives. #PrayVD

Mk 10: 17-30 The Kingdom of God is possible Every Sunday we go to mass to receive Jesus' body and blood through the Holy Eucharist. But have we ever thought of asking how to receive eternal life? In our gospel, we are presented of a challenging way of how to receive eternal life. Jesus said that it's not merely through obeying commandments. He said, "Go, sell what you have and come follow me." Through this words, eternal life and God's Kingdom will be possible to attain. Let us ask for Mother Mary's confidence in attaining the possibility of God's kingdom through our own sacrifices and following of Jesus. #PrayVD |
