Gospel: Mt 16:24-28 Take up your cross and follow me We see the cross as a sign of death, suffering or pain. The message for today’s gospel will be hard to receive if our perspective is the same. Jesus invites us to take up our own crosses and follow him. Today, we are invited to see the cross as a sign of life and love. If we have life to live the challenges and love to see through the hardships, we will succeed in taking up our own crosses and following Jesus. Mama Mary, we pray to you that our hearts be as pure as yours so we become selfless in taking up our own cross. #PrayVD

Gospel: Mt 16:13-23 Who is Jesus for you? In the gospel, Jesus is asking the disciples what the people know and say about him at first. However, Jesus is more curious of how the disciples know him so he asked a question to them and the disciples answered Him. Today, He is asking you the same question: “Who is Jesus for you?” We have different answers but for sure, he wants to hear your answer. Talk to him today and pray that he continues to guide us as the Son of the living God. Mother Mary, help us find time today to be united with Jesus and answer his question to us. Amen. #PrayVD

Gospel: Mt 15: 21-28 How great is your faith? How do we measure the word “great”? Is it by getting grand things in life? Or simply by the position that someone has? In the gospel, the Canaanite woman showed the greatness of her faith through persistence. She never gave up in asking from the Lord to heal his daughter despite the delays. In your faith, are you trying to persevere and be great? You can start today. Mama Mary, be our model of perseverance and patience so we can grow strong in our faith with the Lord. Amen. #PrayVD

Gospel: Mt 13:54-58 Pray, listen and stay awake! The week has just started… have you had some time to stay and pray with the Lord? Or are you still sleepy? Or thinking ahead of the things you need to accomplish this week? Just like the disciples who got sleepy while praying with Jesus and Peter who got distracted marveling first at the blazing light near Jesus. With this, our Father points us to his chosen son, Jesus Christ whom we can listen and pray with as we start this week. Let us never forget to nurture our personal relationship with Jesus by staying awake and listening closely to him through prayer. Mother Mary, accompany us this week as we find time to pray with Jesus in our daily moments. Amen. #PrayVD

Gospel: Mt 14: 13 - 21 Offer your five loaves and two fishes The little we have can bear fruit to many, only if we offer it to the Lord. In the gospel, Jesus gives example to his disciples the act of self-giving. Even if what they have are only five loaves and two fishes, Jesus transformed this into food that can be consume by the hungry people. Today, what is your five loaves and two fishes that you can give to the "hungry crowd" in your life? Mother Mary, we pray for the grace of generosity to find in our heart to give what we have to the people who are in need. Amen #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 12:13–21 "Be on your guard against all kinds of greed." (cf. Luke 12:15) It is inevitable for man to strive for great wealth in order for him to afford the comforts of life. But Jesus, in today’s Gospel, reminds us that even though wealth is necessary for us to satisfy our daily needs, it is not the one that could give us eternal life. With this, He is also calling us to be on guard against every kind of greed that our hearts may encounter upon striving for wealth. May we be like Mother Mary, thankful and contented with the grace of God. Amen. #PrayVD

Gospel: Matthew 14:1–12 "A model of unshakable strength and devotion to his cause for which he was ready to die" (cf. Handbook of the Legion of Mary – “Saint John the Baptist") A cause for the kingdom of God requires unshakable strength and great devotion, this attitude has been shown by Saint John the Baptist through his act of preparing the way of the Lord. His death has not been in vain, for Jesus was able to go through this way that he has prepared and was able to reach the hearts of God’s people. May we be like Saint John the Baptist, having unshakable strength and great devotion to our causes for the glory of God in the hearts of people. #PrayVD

Gospel: Matthew 13:54–58 "And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith." (cf. Mt 13:58) In today’s Gospel, Jesus experienced rejection in His hometown. And with their lack of faith, He was not able to do miracles in their lives. Sometimes when we feel like our prayers are not being answered, we become like the people in the Gospel, we tendto lose faith and have our hearts closed to the miracles of Jesus in our lives. Let us ask Mother Mary to teach us how to trust more in the power of Jesus so as to open our hearts to His miracles in our lives. #PrayVD

Gospel: Matthew 13:47–53 “Have you understood all this?” (cf. Mt 13:51) In most parables given by Jesus, we can always observe the distinction between the good and bad, with the bad being sorted out from the good ones and end up disregarded. Jesus used the parables not to convey that the Heavenly Father is a punishing God but to help us understand the mercy of God to sinners who are ready to repent and live according to the Kingdom of heaven. Let us ask Mother Mary to guide us into living according to the Kingdom of heaven. #PrayVD

Gospel: Matthew 13:44–46 “How would you describe heaven to an innocent child?” – Fr. John Leydon, Columban Missionary Though we may not fully understand what could heaven be like, somewhere deep in our minds we try to paint our own view of it. But is this “heaven” worth it? Heaven, as described by Jesus in today’s Gospel, is something that is of great value that one would forgo everything else he has in order to achieve it. These “everything else” could be the worldly things that compromise our faith and hinders us to live a life desirable to the eyes of God. Let us reflect on things that could be hindering us from living our faith. #PrayVD |
