Read and be inspired by a reflection based on today's Gospel made by members of the Verbum Dei Family in Manila.

Gospel: Mark 6:45-52 "Courage! It is I; don’t be afraid!" (cf. Mark6:50) Many times we have experienced different storms in life that overwhelm us. It may have been an illness, loss of a loved one, loss of a job, or financial crisis. These storms typically leave us lost, feeling pain. In today's Gospel, we are invited to look deeply for Jesus. He is with us! Let us open our eyes and hearts. We are challenged to have courage and recognize Jesus in the midst of the storm that we are facing. #PrayVD January 7, 2020 Tuesday
Gospel: Mark 6:34-44 "You, yourselves give them something to eat." (cf. Mark 6:27) Time went by and it began to be late and dark. The disciples were concerned and asked Jesus to send the people away because they were sure that in the desert it is impossible to find something to eat for so many people. But Jesus said to them, “You, yourselves give them something to eat.” Jesus doesn't seek solutions from outside but from within. Give what you have. Give what you can give. You don't have to be great, rich or famous for you to be able to give. When we think of feeding the world or the need in the world it can be overwhelming for us. Today's Gospel invites us to give without questioning whether we are enough or not because He will be the one to make it suffice to everyone who needs it. #PrayVD January 6, 2020 Monday
Gospel: Matthew 4: 12-17, 23-25 "The people who lived in darkness have seen a great light." (cf. Matthew 4:16) Jesus was the great light they saw. The imprisonment of John impels Jesus to begin His preaching sending the same message. He knows that it involves risk but he did not allow himself to be frightened. Today's Gospel invites us to be the light shone to those who lived in darkness. Give them the true light, the great light to them which is Jesus. #PrayVD January 5,2020 Sunday
Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12 “And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy” Today is the Feast of Epiphany and we are invited to become part of this story. Like the Wise men, we too continues to journey in search for true happiness and meaning. Life May have its ups and down in an effort to find the north star while navigating in the “world”. In the end, having persevered in their search , found themselves in the presence of the child Jesus who enlightened and guided them towards the path of righteousness and pure joy! Lets us not be weary, press on until we reach the finish line . God’s grace be upon us . Amen. #PrayVD January 4,2020 Saturday
Gospel: John 1:35-42 “Come and see” John continues to point his own followers towards Jesus . One of the two who heard John spoke was Andrew . Having encountered Jesus himself, he goes and shares to his brother Simon who then comes to meet Jesus. And more followers after that from those who having experienced Jesus became attracted to his call or vocation. The same is true today to us who had encountered Jesus, may our lives draw others to him. That they too may find their joy, discover and live up their identity - as child of God. Lets us pray for more workers in the vineyard of God . #PrayVD January 3, 2020 Friday
Gospel: John 1:29-34 “Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sin of the world” John fulfils his role, testified and revealed before the people the identity of Jesus, that he is the Son of God. With this declaration, Jesus’ mission begins . Jesus on the other hand has asked his disciples in few occasions, “And you, who do you say I am?” Today is an opportune time to dialogue with Jesus, to express our thoughts and feelings. To soak in prayer, know more and listen to him. He longs to be with us, to be united with him and share his joy. How blessed we are, God’s graciousness overflows! #PrayVD January 2,2020 Thursday
Gospel: John 1:19-28 “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, Prepare a way for the Lord. Make his paths straight” The life John calls out to all people to prepare the way of the Lord. It is our call, to make known Jesus throughout the world . To so many who are last, least and lost . What then should you do? Lets us draw near to him in prayer and ask how we may “push our boat a little more” in this new year. Lets us pray for courage, humility and boldness to carry out our vocations . “There is always a space for each one.” #PrayVD January 1, 2020 Wednesday
Gospel: Luke 2:16-21 “they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him” The child is named. Jesus means “God saves”. And “every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” Phil 1:9 What’s in a Name? Have you ever wondered what your name stands for ? Are you living up to its meaning? An angel gave the name of Jesus and John . Likewise, our name is not just any other name. Let us take time to ponder on this revelation, not just in mind but in heart too and rediscover our identity. Also, today is New Year’s Day. How are you welcoming FY2020? Are you expectant, full of hope and renewed? Lets us come before Jesus, share our disposition with him and ask his blessing’s of this new year’s journey . #PrayVD

Gospel : John 1:1-18 “and the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” This is the “Christmas Gospel”. More than the celebration of the birth of the baby Jesus , it is also about the mystery of the Incarnation of God who chose to be among us and remains in us forever through his Word. As new year unfolds, let us take time to reflect back on how the light and presence of Jesus has impacted our life this past year. His Word, alive and effective guiding our path. Let us be grateful and give thanks . #PrayVD

Gospel: Luke 2:36-40 “and the favor of God was upon him” Christmas is for all ages- young and old! Today, we can learn from Prophet Anna whose life is “hidden” in the temple, praying with fasting day and night . Waiting for the coming of redemption. Then comes the moment of delight upon her recognition that Jesus is indeed present! And she tells everyone of this good news! People of this generation need not wait like the people in the past . We are blessed to have Jesus with us all the days of our lives! He is Emmanuel - God with us! Let us pray to Lord Jesus that in the midst of festivities , we may find time to withdraw in silence for quality prayer . Let us never doubt the value of “wasting time” hidden before God the Father. Just like Jesus “hidden life”, may we too grow in strength , wisdom and favour from God . #PrayVD |
